Rummage Room is Fun and Has Great Buys!

Giant Rummage Sale Benefits Hospital

Oddity collectors, garage sale experts, and thrift shop enthusiasts will love the unique style and collections located within the giant Rummage Room Sale located at Terrell State Hospital (TSH). Held on the first Thursday of each month, the dozen or so rooms containing everything imaginable are stocked and maintained by the Volunteer Services Council of the hospital.

The Volunteer Services Council (VSC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity of the Terrell State Hospital, specifically designed to "provide personal attention for the benefit of the hospital's patients - above and beyond the care and treatment provided by the State."

Funds collected from the giant rummage sale are used to purchase personal items for hospital patients. And after touring the facility and interviewing the volunteers associated with the Rummage Room Sale, it was blatantly obvious that this charity effort is without a doubt the real deal.

The dedicated volunteers who operate the sale spend countless hours of their personal time washing, folding, sorting, and arranging the multiple rooms of second hand treasures. Since the founding of the VSC in 1954, volunteers have provided for the patients of TSH through countless fundraising efforts.

Whole rooms within the historic building are packed with cheaply priced furniture, clothes, shoes, books, tools, toys, and knick-knacks. With countless items being donated from estate sales, businesses, and families across the county, the indoor sale has become extremely popular with local residents.

TSH is an in-patient psychiatric hospital owned and operated by the State of Texas. Being founded in 1885, the 300 plus patient hospital is undoubtedly the oldest structure within Terrell. The Rummage Room Sale is located just inside the main entrance with ample parking and visible signage.

Opening promptly at 8:30 a.m. and closing early at 3:30 p.m., shoppers line up before the doors open and continue arriving throughout the day. The public is welcome, and invited to browse, and encouraged to spend a little money to help the many patients living within Terrell State Hospital.

Post readers are invited to enjoy browsing through the photos attached. Any adult interested in information on the Volunteer Services Council of TSH may visit their website at www.terrellshvolunteers.org.
